Want to invest in a niche scent? Check out Angela Flanders
This little scent haven is a world away from noisy department stores
You may not have heard of Angela Flanders but she had been making perfumes since the 80s. Sadly Angela herself is no longer with us but the shop lives on and the latest scent ‘Lawn’ was concocted by her daughter Kate, in collaboration with fragrance writer and poet Vicci Bentley, with a fresh green bouquet with a rich floral base. Her scents are a world away from the latest celebrity fragrance. If you’re after a signature scent for spring, this is the place to find it.
The shop itself is like travelling back in time, its gorgeous interiors have a glamorous vibe without being too in-your-face or overstated. Fragrances are prom-night perfect, such as Rose Poudree – a dazzling concoction of roses, violets and sandalwood. Then there’s her award-winning chypre scent Precious One, with warm oakmoss and smoky vetiver, it’s ideal for the more ‘tomboyish’ among you. And Parisienne is a dreamy oriental with powdery sweet notes of musk and vanilla.
With prices in the region of £30 to £79 (depending on the size of the bottle and the concentration) it’s certainly a more affordable investment than some of the pricier niche perfumeries out there. And if you’re nowhere near East London – fret not, you can buy samples of these scents online at £3.50 each, so you can try before you buy.
Open Monday-Friday 11am-6:30pm, and Saturdays 11am-5pm.
