'The Hair Appointment' comes to London

On the 17th August, The Palms in Peckham hosted 'The Hair Appointment', an interactive salon exhibition celebrating black hairstyling

Since last year April when Toronto-based creative director and model Josef Adamu founded The Hair Appointment, it has gained considerable momentum from the streets of Brooklyn to Peckham.

Last weekend, The Palms Peckham used its space to host the first Hair Appointment salon-exhibition. Hosted by the dynamic duo Jay & Trina of CurltureUK, the evening was cultural concoction of artwork, traditional braiding, music, food and all-round good energy.

Josef's mission was to provide a lens into the unique experience of the black salon. Through beautiful retro imagery, the story of hair braiding and the essence of black hair styling is revealed to the world.

This all came about when Josef stumbled across a Brooklyn salon called Alima Hair Braiding. Seeing how the business was struggling to reach new clients, he employed his passion for photography to help with the salon's social media. The response was positive and in an interview with i-D online, Josef said, 'It really, really hit home for so many people that can relate.'
