Rihanna’s breath-taking visual autobiography is a book that breaks all the rules
Every self-respecting fashion gal needs RiRi’s new book – a photographic feast of over 1,000 photographs! Here’s what to expect...
No stylish coffee table would be complete without this latest publishing drop from Rihanna. It’s big (like, literally), bold and everything you’d expect from the culture-defining popstar. Her first book is a self-titled autobiography, told in visual form – and it’s a colossal treat for the senses.
Want to get never-before-seen shots of the singer? What about more insider peeks of that Met Gala photo? Then leaf through hundreds of pages of utterly jaw-dropping images. In true newsworthy style, the massive tome launched with the Fenty beauty mogul cheekily posing naked with the book open across her chest on Instagram. And since then it’s no surprise it’s become a bestselling sensation, sought-after by not just her fans but by a wider audience who’ve applauded her daring and ever-changing style.
The new princess of publishing
An artist never afraid to push boundaries, RiRi’s put her stamp on not just music, but wider popular culture too including beauty and fashion. So books, naturally, was always on the horizon. According to the latest publishing reports, it’s a bestseller both here and the United States, hitting number one at US based Barnes and Noble.
So, what should you expect inside? We at Spell have taken a look and we’ve broken it down in numbers: it’s 504 pages of iconic looks and moments from her life and career so far, contains 11 special inserts, including a removable poster, and seven gatefolds – and cover that features a wrap-around cloth binding. Oh and not forgetting, it weighs in at a mammoth 15 pounds!
Not just that, the book also comes complete in three special editions at three very different price points (the Luxury Edition is in the thousands!) and three incredibly designed bookstands by the Haas Brothers, a Los Angeles-based team known for their brilliant and sometimes bizarre creations. The bookstands are called: ‘This Shit Is Heavy’, ‘Drippy + the Brain’ and ‘Stone’.
Add it to your Dear Santa list
At £105, it’s definitely an investment piece, but according to her publishers Phaidon, this is the ultimate Christmas present for any Rihanna fan: “This first book by Rihanna is an exclusive, inside look into her world, a stunning visual narrative from the international cultural icon. From her childhood in Barbados to her worldwide tours, from quintessential fashion moments to private time with friends and family, the book showcases intimate photographs of her life as a musician, performer, designer, and entrepreneur.”
Rihanna added: "I am so excited to share this collection of incredible images. I’m very grateful to the talented photographers and artists who contributed. We’ve been working on the book for over five years and I’m really happy to be able to finally share it with everybody."
