Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event consisting of a vibrant and thrilling celebration which showcases London’s rich multicultural community. For any party lovers out there, the carnival weekend is a crucial date in the diary that should not be missed.
The carnival has been a yearly tradition since 1966. It takes place over two days and features a parade and fantastic live music, including reggae, dub and salsa. There are also 36 static sound systems, soca floats, steel bands and a whole lot of delicious Caribbean food to satisfy your taste buds.
Carnival season is one of the best things about summer. From the bold fashion to delicious food, blaring music, dancing and masquerades - it’s truly a summer vibe from the moment you arrive. Make sure to make most of this year's Notting Hill Carnival with our three top tips to help the vibes keep flowing.
Tip 1: Establish a meeting point
It can be easy to get lost at carnival due to the super busy atmosphere, so it’s a good idea to establish a meeting place with your friends if you happen to get separated at any point. A well-defined meet point will help you become reconnected again.
Tip 2: Wear suitable footwear
Trainers, darling. No flip-flops. You’re going to be doing a lot of walking and dancing, so you need comfortable footwear. We advise wearing trainers that are not your favourite or ones you don’t mind getting a bit dirty if someone accidentally steps on them. Carnival is all about good vibes - you don't want to be worrying about your feet hurting! We can't stress this enough: wear comfortable and practical trainers.
Tip 3: Hydration hydration hydration
Stay hydrated! Be sure to drink a lot of water. Carnival can become draining because of the combination of sun, dancing and hot temperatures, and people often forget to keep their water levels up. To keep the ride going, make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. And bring a water bottle to save on plastic!
