With pigmentation being one of the most common skincare concerns reported by black women and women of colour, the Black Skin Directory have launched  a pop-up shop to help those in need tackle the problem. The newly launched e-shop features an edit of three stellar treatment products  from NeoStrata, Nuhanciam, and SkinBetter that are equipped at treating skin of colour. On launching the e-shop Aesthetician and Black Skin Directory founder, Dija Ayodele offers her top tips when it comes to fighting pigmentation

"Women of colour should include products that are tyrosinase inhibitors (TI)in their skincare - these help to quell excess melanin at source and subsequently work to prevent hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone is the strongest and quickest TI, but you need a prescription.Other over the counter TI’s would be serums that contain bearberry, liquorice root extract, kojic acid, vitamin C. Always go for the serum format as that will work quicker on the skin."

Eau Thermale Avène Cream SPF50+ (50ml)

A little goes a long way. Best to use daytime when you forego make-up and plan to lounge in the sun. Avoid being outdoors between noon and 4pm, however if you are, it may be worth topping up - but not too much as it can leave a white film.

Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution 30ml

This solution has a high concentration of vitamin C and can be used day and night. Works well at brightening the complexion and healing dark marks. If used in the day, always follow on with an SPF.

REN Clean Screen Mineral SPF30

Detest the coated, oily feel that some sunscreens leave? Then the REN Matiffying Face Sunscreen is for you. It's light enough to sit well under make-up and has a roster of natural ingredients that protect and even soothe irritation from radical sun damage.

“Also don’t forget your lips as they are very prone to sun induced pigmentation. Use a lip balm with sunscreen and smear just over your natural lip line to ensure you the delicate lip area is fully protected as fine lines can start around the immediate perioral area. Retinol is great post summer as the ultimate exfoliator. I find a lot of my patients prefer it autumn/winter to include in their skincare”
