Better curl care in 3 minutes
Want to perfect your curly haircare routine? Trichologist Anabel Kingsley shares four easy tips for upping your curl care.
It's no secret that curly hair has its own requirements when it comes to haircare products and your routine. But there are still many curly haired women and men out there who are committing common mistakes when it comes to their crowns. Luckily, these mistakes aren't hard to fix.
Anabel Kingsley, renowned trichologist and Director of Communications at much-loved healthy haircare brand Philip Kingsley, gives us her advice on improving your curly haircare routine. These simple fixes don't take long to implement - but the results really make a difference!
1. Detangle from the bottom
Due to twists along the hair shafts, curly hair is prone to tangling. Never start detangling from the top, as this can result in breakage.
2. Find balanced moisturising products
Curly hair should be treated like dry skin so look out for products that moisturise and condition without weighing the hair down. We’d recommend using Philip Kingsley’s Re-Moisturising Conditioner (£10.50 for 75ml, £19.50 for 200ml and £62 for 1000ml).
3. Apply conditioner to the oldest part of your hair
Applying conditioner to your roots can make hair heavy and limp. Only apply conditioner to your mid-lengths and ends where the hair is older and needs it the most.
4. Make leave-in conditioners a staple
Big curly hair is often more fragile than it looks, so it is worth trying a protective leave in product, such as the Philip Kingsley Curl Activator (£21). Created for those in pursuit of perfect curls, this light, non-sticky formula provides curl retention, hold and shine whilst dramatically enhancing, smoothing and separating curls leaving hair infused with shine and defined waves. Gives medium hold for all hair types without weight. It is a brush out formula for use on wet or dry hair.
