All the 90s minimalist fashion inspo you need
Two decades on, the adage ‘less is more’ couldn’t be more relevant. Get the look with clean lines and pared-down make-up.
The 90s are back (again) this season. But this time, there's less emphasis on music subcultures such as grunge and hip hop, and more on the minimalism dominating the runways of the time. Think Calvin Klein's iconic slip dress and Martin Margiela's obsession with the bareness of the colour white.
There's no denying that 90s minimalist fashion was a welcome escape from the grandiosity and excess of the 80s; however, in 2020, we seemed to have found a surprisingly cohesive balance of the two eras. While the 90s was all about creating sleek and slender silhouettes and accessories devoid of designer logos, this year has seen boxy white t-shirts and Nike-everything taking over our feeds and wardrobes. Thanks to the diversity of this new age of fashion, an oversized hoodie and cycling shorts paired with the latest Yeezy trainers can look just as deliberate as an all-black maxi slip with barely there heels. It's all minimalism, but it's your minimalism.
